[Hong Kong] A Festive Northern Lights Staycation at The Peninsula

Need ideas to celebrate the holidays? How about a Northern Lights inspired staycation at The Peninsula! Even though we can’t travel to see the real thing just yet, you can still have a magical celebration this holiday season with the “Festive World - A Nordic Inspiration” staycation package. Aside from the Northern Lights turn-down, the rooms are also decked out with beautiful festive decorations. Book early as this unique experience is limited to a select number of guest rooms, and only available until January 3rd.

We stayed in a Deluxe Harbour View Suite which had a separate bedroom, living room, dressing room and bathroom! Our suite had the most gorgeous views of the Victoria Harbour and surrounding area in Tsim Sha Tsui. The room is well-designed with a classic and timeless feel; it's also a lot more modern and functional that what I'd expected from a hotel of this age with LED touch screen panel, a digital tablet for room controls and ordering room service, a built-in coffee machine, a TV that swivels out, and USB chargers on both sides of the bed (you'll be surprised at how many hotels still don't have this).

What a neat little welcome treat with a chocolate in the shape of the Peninsula Rolls-Royce!

I brought my chocolate advent calendar from The Peninsula Boutique because I thought it would match so well with the festive fireplace!

The bedroom is where the magic happens at night!

I just love this corner in the bedroom with an expansive view of the Hong Kong skyline.

The dressing room has ample space for luggage with a walk-in closet and vanity area.

The marble bathroom is the perfect place to wind down and have some me-time! I ordered a special body and bath ritual with bath salt and oils from The Peninsula Spa, and was able to enjoy it in my room at my own pace.

The package comes with a few options of Historical Journeys around the hotel and I highly recommend the aviation tour which includes a visit to the hotel's helipad for photos! It must be the most epic place to watch the sunset in the city.

At night, we continued our Northern Lights journey with a Sensational Aurora Menu at Felix! Located on the 28/F, the restaurant boasts spectacular views of the Victoria Harbour and we even caught the Symphony of Lights during our meal (it was the last dinner service before the dining ban). Helmed by Spanish Chef Juan Gomez, the dishes we had were inspired by Finland as part of the Northern Lights theme.

Felix “Pinaattikeitto” (Traditional Finnish Spinach Soup) with Rye Bread, Hard Boiled Egg

Cured Salmon with Dill, Caviar, Sour Cream

Pan-fried Foie Gras in Karelian Pie Crust with Sweet Sour Glazed Plums, Anise Herb Salad

Slow Cooked Perch Loin with Cabbage, Beetroot, Celeriac

Pork Pluma with Potato Flat Bread, Mash Roots Ragout

Finnish Blueberry Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Salted Toffee Sauce

The next morning we had breakfast in the room which I had ordered the night before on the digital tablet in the room. I had the Chinese breakfast while J had the Continental breakfast while enjoying the views of the harbor!

The hotel's swimming pool was closed during my stay due to the Covid-19 restrictions, but we can still admire the beautiful Roman inspired designs and harbor views (yet again)!

Instead of swimming, we decided to take part in an art class hosted by Anastassia’s Art House who is offerng a series of festive art and craft classes for guests to join at HK$180 per child/adult on select days! The class takes place onsite and we had the most relaxing time getting in touch with our creative side. The two hours flew by quickly to our surprise and we wished we had more time to finish our paintings. Which do you like better - mine or J's?

Oh one more thing - you can always arrange a Rolls-Royce limousine transfer so that you can arrive in style for your staycation! Because...why not?

Thank you to everyone at The Peninsula who took great care of us - I can't wait to be back soon!
