[Hong Kong] Batard - French Bistro Inside The Fine Wine Experience
Still reminiscing on my fantastic lunch a few weeks ago at Batard - a contemporary French bistro inside The Fine Wine Experience! A heaven for wine lovers, the wine retailer occupies a vast space and offers an impressive line up of wines from all around the world. To provide a truly immersive experience, the retailer offers wine classes & events, private karaoke rooms, and a restaurant which aims to deliver elevated French comfort food with exceptional wine pairing. Helmed by new chef Aven Lau with experiences at Odette, Belon and Le Pan, the food at Batard was wonderfully executed with sophisticated and clean flavors.
Our meal started with amuse bouche Beef Tartare Cannelloni and Trout Roe Tart, followed by a delightful Slow Poached Foie Gras with Strawberry & White Balsamic where the tartness of the sauces carefully balanced the richness of the Foie Gras.
Next up was the Whole Glazed Asparagus with Preserved Black Truffle Coulis and Japanese Fruit Tomato Tart with Fennel Pollen & Burrata which was easily another highlight with its beautiful puff pastry and creamy tomato sauce.
And then there’s the showstopper - the gorgeous Monkfish en Croute with langoustine, black trumpet mushrooms and buttery monkfish bones sauce.
The Roasted Quail with Morel Mushrooms & Vin Jaune was another wonderful dish with delicate layers of meat, mousse and crunchy croutons.
Then came another favorite - the signature Whole Roasted Local Chicken with Pilaf Rice! The chicken was brined, steamed and then roasted - resulting in incredibly tender meat and crispy skin which goes oh so very well with the flavorful rice.
The meal then ended with two lovely desserts - a refreshing Rhubarb & Pistachio and a beautiful Apple Tart with Crushed Dragee which should not be missed!
