[Italy: Oltressenda Alta] 1* Contrada Bricconi - A Love Letter to the Mountains

Follow me to 1* Contrada Bricconi near Bergamo - an agritourism restaurant up in the mountains with its own farmhouse. Using modern agricultural practices to revive ancient traditions, its crop cultivation and livestock farming are conducted in a sustainable way. In 2022, the restaurant was opened for diners to experience the fruits of labor from the mountains. Taking on this task is Chef Michele Lazzarini who had worked with Norbert Niederkofler (famous for his “Cook the Mountain” philosophy) for 9 years.

Arriving at the restaurant was a journey in itself. As our car made its way up a steep winding road, breathtaking views of the valley and mountains came into sight. Our lunch started with a tour of the gardens before ending up in the greenhouse for a welcome drink. We then headed up to the restaurant for the main part of the meal with highlights such as the snail skewer, bread gnocchi with calf’s brains, bottoni with lovage, fusilli with red fruits & blackcurrant oil, and quail with Jerk sauce. My least favorite though was the trout with a water "green curry" sauce. A love letter to the mountains, this is a special culinary experience not to be missed when in Italy.
