[Barcelona] El Quim de la Boqueria - A Must Try in Barcelona!

The Mercat de Sant Josep La Boqueria is a big public market in Barcelona that is a big tourist attraction with a vast selection of goods for sale from Iberico ham, vegetables, meat, eggs, chocolates and basically anything you would need in a food market! There was a lot of people as you can imagine but it is definitely worth a visit to check out the dazzling stalls of snacks that you can buy on the spot to munch on while you look around. Besides food stalls, there are actually quite a few restaurants at the Boqueria as well and I went to visit El Quim de la Boqueria at the recommendation from a friend which turned out to be an amazing meal and a must-try in Barcelona for me!

We found El Quim de la Boqueria towards the back of the market from the Las Rambles entrance with 20+ counter seats around an open kitchen. No reservations are accepted and we were lucky enough to snatch up 2 open seats when we arrived for lunch. Menu is available in English and ordering is easy as you just mark the quantity of whatever you want on the menu/order form. Service was prompt and friendly but I did find the market to be a bit hot because the AC wasn't strong enough so it did get uncomfortable eating there in the summer time.

The Jamon Iberico de Bellota (Acord-fed Cured Ham) (16€) is of course a must-try in Barcelona. You can get it at one of the food stalls or even bring home an entire leg if your luggage allows! One try and the taste is unforgettable!

I knew that I wanted to try the "freshest baby squid in the Mediterranean" on the menu but wasn't sure which dish to try so I asked the staff for recommendation and he suggested that I get the Fried Eggs with Baby Squid (19,75€) which turned out to be amazingly delicious! It arrived on a pan with two fried eggs and tons of baby squid on top. Both the squid and egg were cooked to perfection and the flavors were simple and yet irresistible!

The Quim's "Super Burger" with Foie Gras (24€) was a mouth-watering creation with a piece of perfectly caramelized foie gras on top of pan-fried vegetables and a tender and juicy beef patty doused with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. This decadent dish is the epitome of food porn right here!

Finally we ended our satisfying meal with Catalan Cream (5€) which was way better than the one at Can Majo as it had a bit of orange zest in it to balance the sweetness while the texture was firmer.

Verdict - based on the amazing food, I really think that El Quim de la Boqueria is a must-try in Barcelona. Molecular gastronomy and fine dining may not be for everyone but the food at El Quim is something that should appeal to everyone looking for a taste of local food in Barcelona!
