[Hong Kong] Mamasita's Cantina - Cuban Bar & Mexican Street Food

Rating: ❤❤❤1/2

8 Lyndhurst Terrace has been the talk of town lately with the opening of 4 new restaurants by ZS Hospistality Group in the same building including Ee Da Le, My Tai Tai, Mamasita's Cantina and Lee Lo Mei. I went to check out Mamasita recently which aims to bring the best of Latin America to Hong Kong with a 1960's Havanas-inspired Cuban bar on the 6/F and a restaurant serving Mexican-style street food by Chef Edgar Navarro on the 5/F. With a diverse menu, the restaurant is perfect for dining with a group of friends and it was pretty full when I went on a week night - this buzzy new restaurant is definitely worth checking out if you love Mexican food.

I love the colorful decor of the restaurant especially the beautiful tiles adorning the staircase.

No meal is complete without cocktails (at least for me) and the cocktail menu is pretty extensive here with a wide selection of rums, tequilas, and mezcals.

We started off with some snacks first and what I loved about the homemade tortilla chips was that they were really tasty and crispy which were totally addictive to eat!

Guacamole Dip ($88) - Avocado, Tomato, Onion, Jalapeno Chili, Queso Cotija, A Touch of White Truffle Oil, Served with Fresh Corn Tortilla Chips.

Acapulco Ceviche ($148) - Octopus, Shrimps, Fish, Tomato Clam Juice, Spring Onion, Avocado, Coriander with Corn Tortilla Chips

Corn Esquites ($78) - Mexican Street Style Roasted Corn, Chili, Lime Juice, Mayo, Cotija Cheese and Fresh Coriander

The fish taco was no doubt my favorite item of the night as the fish was perfectly crispy while the sauce complimented it perfectly.

Fish Taco ($88) - Sol Beer Battered Fish, Creamy Avocado, Red Onion, Cabbage,Chipotle Mayoon a Flour Tortilla.

Beef Taco ($88) - Grilled Skirt Steak, Chorizo, Potatoes, Stewed Bean, Onions, Fresh Coriander

We also had some bigger dishes to share which had been cooked in the 500 degree Spanish Mesquite Oven for a juicy and smoky flavor.

Pescado Sarandeado ($368) - Whole Grilled Fish, Adobo and Coriander Rub, served with Black Beans and Homemade Salsa.

Beef Carne Asada ($268) - Grilled Marinated Hanger Steak, Smoky Pineapple, Roasted Cactus and Table Cloth Stain Sauce

For desserts, the 3 leches ($78) with traditional three milk cake, popcorns, corn foam milk ice-cream and rum granita is not to be missed with its super soft and moist cake layers!

The Churros con Chocolate ($88) with crispy churro bathed in cinnamon sugar and served with salted caramel ice-cream is also a winning choice as the churros were irresistibly crispy and delish to eat with the chocolate dip.
