[Tokyo] 2* Sezanne at Four Seasons Marunouchi by Daniel Calvert

Rating: 4.75/5

Massive congratulations to Sezanne for getting 2 Michelin Stars in the 2023 Michelin Guide for Tokyo! When I started planning my Tokyo trip, the only reservation I made sure to make was at Sezanne in order to try Daniel Calvert's (ex-Belon in HK) cooking once again! With a bigger kitchen and top-notch ingredients in Japan, Daniel’s modern French cuisine has only gotten better and better. The restaurant was awarded with 1 Michelin Star and debuted at #17 on Asia’s 50 Best within its first year of opening and after our meal, we definitely thought it deserved more stars and were glad that we were right - very well-deserved!

As usual, we left the menu up to Daniel and our tasting menu got off to a strong start with:

Buckwheat Brioche with truffle & peanut butter

“Radis Beurre"

Pacific Saury with caramelized onions & green olive

Amaebi with tomato

48 Month Aged Comte Cheese Gougere

Marinated Ikura from Hokkaido with cucumbers & horseradish

Malted Barley Sourdough with Brittany butter

Akkeshi Oyster “Soup”

It's hairy crab season now and while I was surprised to have it in Tokyo, I was even more surprised that the hairy crab tart at Sezanne would turn out to be one of the best hairy crab dishes I've ever had!

Shanghai Hairy Crab Tart marinated in Jura yellow wine with Koshihikari rice

Crispy Skin Kinki from Abashiri with saffron from Oita - another fantastic dish with the best bouillabaisse sauce ever!

Shanghai Hairy Crab Risotto with Alba white truffle

Venison from Engaru Town with sweet potato and “sauce au poivre” - this was the only dish that I didn't like as the venison's taste was too metallic for me.

Meyer Lemon from Kochi with Lemon Thyme

Champagne liquer as a digestif!

Black Mission Figs with coconut and fig leaf

“Tarte Aux Chataignes”

Mignardises

Thank you Daniel for the wonderful hospitality and congratulations on getting 2 Michelin stars again!
