[Macau] Casa Don Alfonso - Authentic Casual Southern Italian Cuisine

Rating: ❤❤❤❤ (4/5)

With no lack of fine dining restaurants at Grand Lisboa Hotel, the hotel is shaking things up by replacing its Italian fine dining restaurant with a more casual concept - Casa Don Alfonso. In partnership with the Don Alfonso family, the family-style restaurant is focused on serving authentic and casual Southern Italian cuisine with the freshest Italian ingredients available - think pastas, risottos and of course freshly baked pizzas!

With this new concept, guests are invited to visit "Don Alfonso's house" and so the dining room is supposed to resemble someone's living room (albeit a very big one!) with European designs and art works. The big table in the middle to for the anitipasti buffet set lunch offered during the day.

One of the things I was looking forward to trying the most was the freshly-baked pizzas by Maurizio Ferrini who cooks them in the electric Izzo Scugnizzo oven at 1000 degrees for less than one minute! You can see the pizza station on the way to the dining room and observe your food being made right in front of you if you wish.

For our dinner, we started off the meal with traditional antipasti and appetizers.

Selection of Traditional Antipasti ($180)

Pan-fried Scallops with Cardoncelli Mushrooms ($150)

Pan-fried Prawns with Arugula, Cherry Tomato and Balsamic Vinegar ($150)

For the pizza, we chose the most classic Margherita Pizza ($120) and it was one of the best pizzas I've had in Asia! The texture of the pizza was super chewy while the flavors were simple and fresh - it's definitely a must-try here!

The Calzoni with Salami, Black Pepper and Cheese ($160) was also baked in the oven and another great choice to try.

Next we moved onto the restaurant's signature pasta and risotto dishes such as the Cannelloni Stuffed with Pork and Beef Served with Neapolitan Ragout ($180).

Seafood Risotto ($200)

Although the restaurant focuses on cuisines from the Sorrento Peninsula and Almafi Coast, you can find the classic Veal Chop Milanese Style ($280) here as well.

Veal Ossobuco with Saffron Risotto ($280)

The desserts here were also excellent and not to be missed! The layers of puff pastry in the Neapolitan Puff Pastry Stuffed with Cinnamon Cream and Sour Cherry ($80) was simply out of this world.

Deep-fried Banana and Chocolate Bigne with Vanilla Ice Cream ($80)

Tiramisu ($80)

After this meal, I'm psyched for my upcoming trip to Italy and I hope that I can find pizzas as good as the ones at Casa Don Alfonso!
