[Macau] Aji 雅吉 at MGM Cotai

During my stay at MGM Cotai, I had a fantastic lunch at Aji which is overseen by Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura of Maido in Lima (currently ranked #7 on World's 50 Best Resturants)! It’s the first Nikkei restaurant in Macau with flavors that pack an exquisite punch complete with an impressive dining room to match which overlooks the stunning atrium of the hotel.

The restaurant's pisco and sake bar allegedly mixes some of the best Peruvian-inspired cocktails outside of Lima.

Before the meal, the chef stopped by and showed us some of the native Peruvian ingredients we would be having including these colorful varieties of potatoes.

We started off the meal with 2 delicious bites:
Deep-fried Peruvian Potato with short rib
Prawn stuffed with black mint in prawn head

King Crab Causa - mashed potato with "Aji amarillo" filled with salmon roe, Hokkaido king crab, black rice cracker and avocado cream

Wagyu Tartare with sea urchin, quail egg and torched chapla bread was one of the favorites of the meal.

Northern Ceviche - bean puree, scallop, octopus, sea urchin and Nikkei "leche de tigre"

Peruvian Nikkei Sushi Land and Sea - this may be one of the most famous signature dish of the restaurant with the beef sushi being torched right in front of you.

Mushroom - shiitake, shimeji and king oyster mushroom in broth

Engawa - grilled flounder fluke with "sudado" sauce. This was easily another favorite with the deliciously spicy sauce.

Parihuela Chawanmushi - black cod, seafood broth, "Aji panca" and lager beer 

Short Rib 50 Hours - glazed with "nitsuke' sauce, purple potato puree and black quinoa. As you can imagine, the beef was super soft and tender so we were only given a spoon to eat it with!

Rocoto - coconut and cinnamon foam, chocolate praline with peanut ice cream

With its superb flavors and unique offerings, Aji is highly recommended even if you have never tried Nikkei cuisine before.
