[Hong Kong] Weekend Lunch at Belon

Rating: ❤❤❤❤1/2 (4.5/5)

Congratulations to Chef Daniel Calvert of Belon on claiming #4 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2020! Since my eating trip to Paris was cancelled, eating at Belon is probably the next best thing. The dishes at this popular neo-Parisian bistro continue to get more refined each time I come - it’s truly a delight to eat here and I always leave the menu up to the chef. To be honest, it's not the best time to write about eating out at the moment, but since Hong Kong is not in a lock down and restaurants are still open, local restaurants will still need our support. With the new regulations in place, seating at restaurants are now at half capacity and limited to 4 per table with at least 1.5 meters between each table; temperature checking and hand sanitizers are also required. Even before the new rules, Belon has also asked patrons to sign a health declaration stating that they have not traveled outside of HK in the past 14 days, so please be responsible if dining out.

The restaurant offers lunch on the weekend and we started our lunch with a few small bites - 24 Months Aged Comte Gougeres, Cod Tarama with Karasumi and Mitsuba, Cold White Asparagus Soupand naturally leavened bread.

The Oyster Tartare was even more flavorful than the last time I had it.

The first course was a fantastic Saba cured in dashi with a punchy local clams escabeche on the side.

Much love for this delicious Drunken Pigeon with celtuce, sorrel and an exquisite Vin Jaune sauce - a great crossover between French and Chinese cuisine!

Morilles Farci with yellow wine and green asparagus - this is the biggest morel mushroom I have seen.

Wild Garlic Ravioli with burrata

Braised Iberico Pork Cheek with pinenuts and artichokes

Onto the desserts! Belon's millefeuille has become known as the best in town and it's no wonder - this Lemon Curd & Meringue Millefeuille was perfection in every way.

The Tarte au Chocolat inspired by Chef Bernard Pacaud of L'Ambrosie was fluffy light and fantastic as always.

Can't complain about freshly baked madeleines either!
