[Hong Kong] Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Restaurant & Bar

It's December which means that the festive holidays are just around the corner! Many restaurants are serving special dinner menus for the celebrations which is why I went to Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Restaurant & Bar last week to preview their Christmas and New Year's dinner menus. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect since Harvey Nichols is a high end retailer so food is not exactly their forte but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food for the price which is reasonable given its prime location in Central. The restaurant is serving 3 different dinner menus for Christmas Eve ($888/person for 6 courses), Christmas Day ($688/person for 5 courses) and New Year's Eve ($888/person for 6 courses) plus you can get a free bottle of wine for every party of 4 and special discounts if you book before December 15th. We got to sample a variety of dishes across all 3 menus to get a taste of their food which is mainly contemporary European with thoughtful plating and generous portions.

We started with the Balik Salmon with Caviar and Herb Salad which was plump with fresh flavors.

My favorite dish of the night was this Crab Meat Stuffed in Corn Roll with lobster mousse. Not only was the plating gorgeous, the flavors of the crab meat and lobster mousse blended well together while the corn roll was silky smooth to eat. The green cubes were made of pea puree which was a nice surprise and very creative!

The Olive Oil Poached Scallop with sesame breadcrumbs and cauliflower foam was another great dish of the night as the scallop was cooked just right while I enjoyed the contrasting texture of the crunchy breadcrumbs with the scallop and foam.

One of the most rich and flavorful Lobster Bisque I've had in HK yet!

The Strawberry Sorbet served as a nice palate cleanser before we moved onto the mains.

The Roasted US Beef Tenderloin with black truffle, parsnip puree, fondant potato and beef jus was wrapped in bacon and had rich flavors but I thought the cut of the beef was a bit lean for my taste. I loved the soft fondant potato though and probably could have used more of it!

The Pan-fried Lobster Tail and Scallop with risotto and shellfish sauce was a bit over-seasoned which overwhelmed the flavors of the lobster tail unfortunately.

The Chestnut and Milk Chocolate Layered Cake with cranberry mousse is the Christmas dessert which was adorned with a super cute chocolate reindeer! The flavors wasn't too sweet overall and I felt that the mousse could be richer actually.

The Pink Chocolate and Raspberry Panna Cotta with vanilla sauce and pistachio ice cream is the New Year's Eve dessert. Taste-wise, this was the better of the two desserts as both the panna cotta and ice cream were on-point!
