[Hong Kong] Osteria Marzia - First Taste of New Coastal Italian Restaurant

Black Sheep Restaurants is bringing us a few new restaurants this month, one of which is Osteria Marzia - an Italian restaurant focusing on the diverse cuisine found in Italy's coastal region! The opening date is not determined yet but I was lucky enough to be invited for a sneak peak by #legend. The wines were flowing and the music was thumping by the time I arrived at the gorgeous restaurant located on the ground floor of The Fleming hotel. My eyes were drawn to the seafood display on the bar before turning my sight to the beautiful dining room adorned with rows of hanging spherical lights. We mingled for a bit before dinner started and the chef Lucas Marinelli (formerly of Buenos Aires Polo Club) came out to tell us about his vision and cuisine for the restaurant.

We got to try quite a few dishes that night starting with this refreshing Hamachi with cherry tomato and olive basil but I thought that the other appetizer Carpaccio with parmesan was a little bland for me.

The next 2 pasta dishes were fabulous though especially the Spaghetti Ricci with A.O.P. sea urchin which uses Italian sea urchin instead of Japanese ones. While the uni wasn't as sweet, the creamy texture of the sea urchin went delightfully well with the spaghetti.

Mozzarella Ravioli with eggplant, basil, colatura di alici

The Branzino Acqua Pazza with clams, olive and cherry tomato was another favorite of the night as it was my first time trying this cooking style of fish. The broth was light and sweet which was enjoyable to eat with the fish and clams - my only complaint was that it wasn't hot enough. The zucchini fries on the side were irresistible though and we couldn't stop eating them until they were gone!

The Lombata Beef Sirloin, anchovy butter and shallot was packed with flavors but our beef was quite chewy compared to our neighbor's though.

The restaurant didn't hold back when it came to dessert time as all sorts of sweets kept coming out to our table including a deliciously rich chocolate cake, panna cotta, fig cake, sorbet in 3 different flavors and lastly a freshly shaved ice dessert!

Overall I feel that Osteria Marzia is a great addition to the Italian dining scene in Hong Kong as it offers dishes that are not commonly served in other Italian restaurants here. It did have some consistency issues with some of the dishes but hopefully these kinks will be ironed out by the time it officially opens and I definitely want to come back to check out the full offering on the menu.
